Position Summary
The Sous Chef serves as the second-in-command in the kitchen at Indian Hills Country Club, supporting the Executive Chef in daily operations and helping to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality cuisine across all dining outlets, banquet functions, golf outings, and member events.
Established in 1961, Indian Hills Country Club is continually refreshed and invigorated for the enjoyment of its membership. Key Responsibilities & Duties
Kitchen Operations & Culinary Execution
· Assist in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of menu items to club standards for all outlets, including lunch service, à la carte dining, special events, banquet functions, and golf outings.
· Ensure consistency in quality, portion size, taste, and plating for all dishes prior to service.
· Step into any station as needed and support cooks and kitchen staff during peak service periods.
Staff Supervision & Leadership
· Supervise, train, and mentor kitchen staff, including line cooks, prep cooks, and other culinary team members.
· Assist with creating work schedules, coordinating assignments, and ensuring appropriate staffing levels.
· Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and performance evaluations to promote growth, accountability, and consistency.
Quality & Standards Control
· Monitor food safety and sanitation practices to ensure compliance with health department regulations and club policies.
· Conduct regular kitchen inspections to maintain cleanliness, organization, and proper food handling procedures.
· Uphold standardized recipes, plating guidelines, and portion control to ensure a consistent member experience.
Inventory & Cost Management
· Assist with inventory management, ordering food and supplies, receiving deliveries, and maintaining proper stock rotation.
· Support food cost controls by monitoring waste, portioning, and adherence to budgetary goals.
Menu Support & Development
· Work collaboratively with the Executive Chef to support menu updates, daily features, seasonal offerings, and special event menus.
· Contribute ideas for new dishes, presentation enhancements, and creative concepts aligned with club standards and member preferences.
Leadership Presence & Member Experience
· Represent the culinary team professionally in member-facing situations when required.
· Ensure member preferences, dietary restrictions, and special requests are clearly communicated and consistently executed.

Qualifications & Experience
· Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years in professional culinary environments with supervisory experience; private club, hotel, or banquet experience preferred.
· Skills: Strong culinary fundamentals, attention to detail, leadership and communication skills; ability to perform in a fast-paced, service-driven environment.
· Certifications: Valid food safety certification (e.g., ServSafe) required.

Physical & Work Schedule Requirements
· Ability to stand for extended periods and lift objects up to 50 lbs.
· Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as dictated by club operations.
· Six (6) days per week during peak season (typically May through October).

Operating Schedule & Compensation Notes
· The club is open six days per week for lunch and three evenings per week for dinner service.
· Golf outings are held exclusively on Mondays from April through October. The Sous Chef is expected to support outing execution as scheduled, with commission paid per outing worked.
· Banquet events and private functions may be scheduled on any day of the week, including evenings and weekends, based on club and member needs.
· Indian Hills Country Club is seasonally closed for approximately two months during the winter, and the right candidate will continue to be paid during the off-season, reflecting the club’s commitment to long-term employment and team stability.

· Salary Range: $67,500 – $75,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
