Located in Hays, Kansas, Smoky Hill Country Club is a private club offering an exceptional
golf and social experience to its nearly 400 members. Established in 1961, the club
features a pristine 18-hole championship golf course with driving range and pro-shop, and
a full-service clubhouse with dining, pool, and event facilities. In 2025, the club completed
installation of a state-of-the-art irrigation system to help ensure the health and beauty of its
golf course for decades.
Smoky Hill hosts a variety of golf tournaments, member and community events, and private
functions throughout the year, making it a central hub for recreation and connection.
Hays, Kansas, is a vibrant small city of approximately 25,000 in northwestern Kansas, home
to Fort Hays State University, a growing economy, and a rich cultural heritage—making it an
ideal setting for both residents and visitors.
We are seeking a visionary and experienced General Manager to lead our club into its next
chapter of growth.
Position Summary
The General Manager will oversee all aspects of club operations, including golf, dining,
pool, events, and member services. This role requires a dynamic leader who can foster a
culture of hospitality for members and guests, promote collegiality and teamwork among
employees, manage financial performance, and collaborate with the Board of Directors to
execute strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Operations
• Direct daily operations across all departments
• Hire, train, and manage department heads and staff
• Ensure compliance with club and HR policies and bylaws
Member Experience
• Maintain high standards of service and member satisfaction
• Develop strategies for membership growth and retention
• Communicate regularly with members via newsletters, social media, and email
Financial Management
• Develop and manage the annual budget
• Monitor revenue and expenses, and provide monthly reports to the Board
• Identify opportunities for revenue generation and cost control
Strategic Planning
• Collaborate with the Board on long-term planning and capital improvements
• Oversee facility maintenance and upgrades
Board & Committee Liaison
• Serve as the primary contact between staff and the Board
• Attend committee meetings and support initiatives
Compliance & Risk Management
• Ensure adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations
• Manage contracts, vendors, and insurance policies
Events & Marketing
• Plan and execute member events and private functions
• Promote the club through branding, community relations, and digital platforms
Technology & Innovation
• Implement and manage systems to improve operational efficiency and member
services
Minimum Qualifications
• Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in hospitality, country club or restaurant
operations or management
• Strong financial acumen and strategic planning skills
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities
• Knowledge of Microsoft applications, clubhouse management applications, and
social media
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Business, Marketing, or related field
• Previous experience as a General Manager, Assistant General Manager, or Food &
Beverage Manager in a Country Club or Golf Club establishment
