Job Summary: The Head Mechanic, under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent and/or the Equipment Manager, oversees a comprehensive preventative maintenance program. This program includes the repair of broken or failing equipment, keeping records of parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment and placing order for parts and supplies needed for equipment or service.
Job Responsibilities:

Preventative maintenance and repair of all golf course and grounds equipment

Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects in diesel, electric and gasoline powered automobiles, trucks,

Maintain accurate and thorough records of all repairs and maintenance of equipment.

Repairs carburetors, distributors, fuel pumps, steering systems, starters, generators, universal joins, hydraulic systems and high-pressure pumps and valves.

Assist in the repair and maintenance of all buildings at maintenance facility.

Maintain a clean, well-organized, and safe work area.

Purchasing of all parts and materials necessary to properly maintain all maintenance equipment.

Maintain adequate parts inventory.

Ability to work proactively relative to equipment maintenance and repairs to minimize equipment downtime and loss of staff productivity.

Maintain detailed records for equipment and parts equipment condition, repair costs and preventive maintenance of all equipment.

Proficient in diagnosing and repairing Tier 4 engines.

Prioritize equipment repair and maintenance work relative to golf course operations.

Maintains inventory of shelf stock of repair parts, nuts and bolts, belts, hoses

Maintain a clean, organized work environment inside and outside.

Adjust mowers correctly to the Superintendent’s standards.

Welding, engine rebuilding, ability to read hydraulic and wiring schematics.

Ability to work within a given budget.

Physical work involving kneeling, bending, stretching, and lifting objects of 50 lbs.

Assist Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent in any way needed.
Education and Experience:
- Sufficient education and literacy needed to identify and read product labels and communicate with others about job-related needs.
- Ability to read write and speak, and communicate in basic English preferred
- 1 year previous experience in a similar position preferred
- Previous experience on a golf course preferred
- High School Diploma or GED
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and automotive apparatus is required

Skilled in the use of a wide variety of equipment repair tools, and the making of various types of mechanical repair.

Knowledge of the theory, care, and operation of internal combustion engines, hydraulic systems, and mowing equipment

Ability to diagnose mechanical troubles and determine appropriate maintenance work

Ability to communicate effectively and keep business records

Maintain upbeat positive attitude and act as a representation of what all St. Joe associates should strive to emulate.

Willingness to work whenever necessary and adjust to varying business levels throughout the year.
