The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will support and assist the Superintendent in managing the daily maintenance and operation of the golf course. This role ensures high-quality playing conditions, supervises maintenance staff, oversees agronomic practices, and assists in long-term planning for turf health and facility improvements. Turf & Grounds Maintenance
•
Assist in planning and executing daily golf course setup, including mowing, raking, rolling, and cup-changing.
•
Monitor turfgrass health and apply corrective measures for disease, pests, drought, or stress.
•
Oversee aerification, topdressing, verticutting, and other cultural practices.
•
Maintain greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and practice facilities to club standards.
Agronomy & Environmental Management
•
Assist in developing and implementing annual agronomic plans.
•
Monitor soil conditions, moisture levels, and fertility requirements.
•
Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and plant growth regulators in compliance with state and federal regulations.
•
Keep accurate chemical application records and ensure proper storage/handling of materials.
•
Support sustainable and environmentally responsible maintenance practices.
Staff Leadership & Training
•
Assign daily tasks to ensure productivity and quality standards are met.
•
Train staff on safe equipment operation and best maintenance practices.
•
Help with hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluation of team members.
Equipment & Facility Management
•
Inspect equipment daily for safety and performance.
•
Maintain clean, organized maintenance facilities and storage areas.
Irrigation System Oversight
•
Troubleshoot and repair irrigation system components including heads, valves, and controllers.
•
Maintain irrigation logs and ensure proper coverage and water efficiency.
•
Manage irrigation scheduling, repair, and monitoring to ensure efficient water use.
Course Improvement & Projects
•
Assist with construction, renovation, and landscaping projects.
•
Interpret course blueprints, drainage maps, and irrigation layouts.
•
Ensure projects are completed safely and efficiently to specification.
Safety & Compliance
•
Enforce safety standards and ensure staff use proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
•
Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to chemical use, water management, and worker safety.
Communication & Member Relations
•
Work closely with the Superintendent to communicate course conditions and maintenance plans.
•
Address member concerns professionally and maintain strong relationships with club staff.
Qualifications & Skills
•
Degree or certification in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or related field (preferred).
•
Pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain one.
•
Strong knowledge of turfgrass diseases, irrigation systems, and maintenance equipment.
•
Leadership and communication skills.
•
Ability to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and in varying weather conditions.
