TITLE: Irrigation Technician

REPORTS TO: Landscape Supervisor

FUNCTION: Serves as an irrigation technician for Brays Island Plantation. Responsibilities include providing all operation maintenance and repairs to irrigation systems Ensures that all support and service is conducted and fulfilled in a manner consistent with the ONE BRAYS Leadership Credo.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Establishes regular preventive maintenance program for all irrigation controllers and valves, ensuring both qualified and timely support.
2. Ensures proper operation of affluent discharge system from water treatment facility.
3. Repairs pipes and electrical support systems as required. Keeps supervisor apprised of all repair actions (routine and emergency), and status for completion.
4. Analyzes wet and dry areas to determine need for adjustment or repair. Arrange to hand water dry areas as needed.
5 Ensures that all repair parts and tools are ordered and stocked in a timely manner, to minimize equipment down time; e.g., PVC pipe and couplings, electrical wire, back-up valves and heads, etc. Ensures that all equipment and tools needed to provide maintenance service are purchased and properly maintained.
6. Informs supervisor if equipment malfunction resulted from improper use by workers.
7. As required by supervisor, maintains log of equipment repair actions and parts inventories.
8. Ensures that work is performed in a safe manner, consistent with the policies and procedures
established by Brays Island Plantation and the Association's Board.
9. Ensures that superintendent is apprised of any irrigation system malfunction, or breakdown, the
elements needed to effect repair, time necessary to effect repair, and the alternate action needed to maintain turf in the interim.
10. Foster a “One Brays” culture that ensures alignment to values, engagement, owner-centricity, and resource sharing.
11. Provides exceptional customer service to Owners and guests while at the facility.
12. Assists lead technician with maintaining the condition and player ability of clay tennis courts.
13. Assists lead technician with the maintenance of plantation pools.
14. Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Capable of working extended hours, to include weekends and holidays as necessary.
2. Able to see well enough to read faint or partially obscured writing or printing, with corrective lenses if needed.
3. Must be able to speak English in a clear and understandable voice so that various types of communications may be conducted with people of various levels of education and capabilities, to include the exchange and receipt of information over the telephone.
4. Position involves sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, shoving, lifting, carrying and moving objects that can weigh up to 60 lbs. This movement can occur throughout the day.
5. Must be able to drive a car, and possess a valid driver's license.
6. This position will alternate between working indoors in a controlled climate and with proper lighting, to an outdoors setting with variable climate and lighting. For the most part, the employee will be exposed to the outside elements which could result in wind, rain, cold, and extreme heat.
7. Must be able to interact with all types of individuals, be mentally alert, detail oriented, and with good reasoning skills.
8. Must possess the proper training and (as applicable) licenses necessary to operate and repair all types of maintenance equipment, to include mowers, trenchers, trucks,and all-terrain vehicles.
9. Accept and carry out other duties as assigned by supervisor.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be able to work on more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes and delays. Must be able to remain focused and work effectively, efficiently, and cheerfully under such circumstances. For safety reasons, employee must remain alert to working conditions and aware of safety, health, and environmental concerns.
2. The employee will be in the vicinity of site-specific vegetation and native species of reptiles and mammals, subjecting the employee to possible injury from contact or bites. Proper footwear, head gear, and maintenance attire should be worn for protection.
3. Must be able to work effectively and cheerfully in an environment which may be stressful due to adversarial situations resulting from the proper performance of duties.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. High school or equivalent diploma, with 3 years’ experience in irrigation maintenance.
2. As turf management and horticulture techniques are refined and improved, must have the ability and desire to continue education, self-improvement efforts, and professional development.
